Four Tips For Creating Fabulous Fall Floral Centerpieces

Fall is upon us and that means all our favorite things are finally acceptable…. pumpkin-spiced lattes, that favorite fall sweater, and all the fall florals + foliage!

I thought I would take a minute to share my top four tips for creating fall centerpieces.

Don’t be afraid of color.

Yellow, orange, red, and purple are some of the beautiful colors that nature graces us with during the fall season. Embrace it when it comes to your flower arranging!

Not sure what colors complement each other? You can always use a standard color wheel to better understand color theory. (Example below).

Colors next to each other on the wheel tend to be monochromatic and a-okay as a design choice, as well as colors across from each other on the wheel. But, I am anything but traditional so I say give a color combo you love a try! Don’t be afraid to color (pun intended) outside of the box, especially in the fall!

Texture is extra fun in the fall.

Fall is spooky season after all so why not hit them with some crazy textures? So many cool elements grow in the fall. Things like celosia and amaranthus just to name a few. Also, don’t be afraid to pair more linear elements with more whimsical ones. Check out this Halloween-inspired design I created below with some of the mentioned elements. Does it creep you out or what? I hope so!

Give a fall wreath a go.

I get asked about making dried fall wreaths all the time and here are a few tips!

You want to create a wreath with fresh flowers. They are way easier to work with. Here are a few of my favorites that dry really well.

  • Craspedia

  • Eucalyptus

  • Rice Flower

  • Statice

  • Pampas Grass

Use paddle wire that is 22-inch gauge. The gauge just represents the thickness of the wire 22- inch or 24-inch gauge is perfect. I shared an example here for your reference.

I also included an image of one of my favorite dried wreath styles, using a gold hoop as the frame!

If you are a wreath-making fanatic like me, you should check out our holiday wreath-making kits! The kits come with all the fresh greenery and supplies to make a 20-24 inch holiday wreath perfect for your front door or mantle. It comes with a self-guided tutorial so you know exactly what to do and we can ship them anywhere in the US. Holiday kits typically ship out the first week in December, but you should snag a kit now because they normally sell out!

Take a fall centerpiece-making workshop with me.

The Flower Social hosts workshops year-round (that is what we are in the business of after all), but during the fall we host fall centerpiece classes. Check out our community calendar to book a workshop or reach out directly to plan a private workshop party for you and your friends! We come to you and bring all the supplies needed to make your project.
